Purpose of the job
Responsible for the Engen group companies’ Direct Tax compliance requirements in order to meet legislative requirements, thereby reducing the tax risk of penalties and interest charges for the company and the payment of excessive taxes
What You'll Be Doing
TAX ACCOUNTING
- Calculate and report quarterly on current and deferred tax liabilities, by applying accounting principles together with tax legislation.
- Utilization of tax software for reporting purposes.
- Process tax entries on SAP
- Prepare reconciliations of the tax liability accounts
- Prepare current and deferred tax calculations for year-end purposes
TAX AUDIT & CONTROLS
- Review and validate data in the system to ensure compliance with legislative requirements through continuous analysis and audits of risk areas identified for all the Engen Group of companies and reporting to the business on any areas of non-compliance.
- Lead and manage third party audits conducted by Revenue Authorities, external and internal auditors in order to ensure compliance with legislation and thereby minimizing tax risk /exposure and possible penalties.
- Review and update tax policies and procedure manuals annually through in-depth research and continuous development to ensure it complies with up-to-date legislation.
STATUTORY COMPLIANCE
- Prepare corporate income tax returns for the South African, Lesotho and Swaziland companies through in-depth analysis of the data and applying accounting principles as well as legislative requirements to ensure compliance, thereby reducing the risk of tax penalties and interest.
- Prepare provisional tax payments for the South African, Lesotho and Swaziland companies
- Provide compliance tax advice and training to the business by applying in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and adhering to tax legislative requirements in order to ensure compliance.
SAP AND SYSTEMS
- Utilization of data in S4 for tax compliance and reporting purposes.
- Identify systems’ shortcomings and drive the implementation of system changes / improvements required in order to comply with tax principles and changes in legislation.
- Consider new ways of working and the possibility of using artificial intelligence to replace mundane / time-consuming / repetitive functions, in order to focus more on value-added tax compliance functions.
- Lead and manage the implementation of identified tax projects in a diligent and timeous manner
Requirements
Baseline:
- NQF level 7 (B Com Accounting or B Tech Taxation).
- 2 years corporate income Tax experience in South Africa
- 2 years accounting experience IFRS
- 2 years SAP experience
Advantageous:
- Post Graduate / Higher Diploma in Tax
