About the role
Join a trusted estate planning and elder law practice that puts families first — and treats its team the same way.
This is a small, established practice in Western Stark County, Ohio focused on helping families navigate estate planning, elder law, Medicaid planning, and trust administration. The attorney has served the community for decades with a practical, compassionate approach that clients rely on at life’s most important moments. The paralegal we bring on will be central to all of it — working directly with clients, supporting the attorney, and keeping complex matters moving with accuracy and care.
About the Role
This position offers a hybrid option for candidates who have a genuine need for alternative scheduling arrangements. In-office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Wednesday is our no-appointment day, used for focused work, one-on-one check-ins with the attorney, and a firm-wide lunch meeting on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
Office hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (one-hour lunch; office closes at noon on Fridays); Friday, 8:30 AM to noon.
The strongest candidate will bring attention to detail, genuine warmth with elderly clients, and the ability to manage complex Medicaid cases independently once up to speed.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend signing appointments with clients for trusts, wills, and powers of attorney
- Meet with clients at follow-up appointments to gather information and complete Medicaid applications
- Gather, process, assemble, and scan documents for Medicaid application submissions
- Work directly with the attorney to complete and file Medicaid applications
- Prepare basic documents including powers of attorney and trust drafts
Requirements
Background and experience:
- Experience in Medicaid planning or estate planning strongly preferred
- Background as a JFS (Job and Family Services) caseworker or similar public benefits role will be considered
Must-haves:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe, and Outlook; comfortable with scanning
- Notary Public, or willing and able to become one (the firm covers all fees)
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Self-starter who takes ownership and follows through without being managed
- Sharp attention to detail — accuracy matters in every document we produce
- Must agree to and abide by the firm’s Code of Conduct: professional presentation, communication, and attire at all times
