As a Staff Accountant at PLACE, you will be at the financial core of a dynamic, multi-entity organization on a path to an IPO. This is not a single-company staff accountant role – you will move across multiple business lines, managing the complete accounting cycle for a portfolio of operating companies, rental properties, and small businesses.If you're energized by complexity, precision, and the opportunity to build expertise across a growing portfolio of entities, this role was designed for you.</p> <p><strong>Who Develops You: </strong>Controller</p> <p><strong>What You'll Do</strong></p> <p>Multi-Entity Accounting &amp; Bookkeeping</p> <ul> <li>Manage the complete monthly accounting cycle across multiple business entities simultaneously.</li> <li>Process bill payments, track deposits, and maintain accurate records across all entities with precision and consistency.</li> <li>Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations across multiple sets of books, ensuring each entity's financial data is complete and accurate.</li> <li>Manage monthly and quarterly tie-outs across entities, identifying discrepancies and resolving variances proactively.</li> <li>Produce timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial statements for each entity, maintaining strict deadlines.</li> <li>Prepare cash flow analyses and budgets at the entity level and in aggregate across the portfolio.</li> </ul> <p>Accounting Software &amp; Systems</p> <ul> <li>Own data entry, transaction downloads, and the integrity of financial data within QuickBooks across all entities.</li> <li>Leverage QuickBooks to maintain clean, audit-ready books for each business in the portfolio.</li> <li>Maintain organized, up-to-date property files and digital records across platforms including Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Drive, and Dropbox.</li> <li>Serve as a knowledgeable resource and reviewer for our virtual assistant, ensuring their QuickBooks entries and financial outputs meet PLACE standards.</li> </ul> <p>Tax &amp; Compliance Support</p> <ul> <li>File and manage state franchise, sales, and excise tax returns across multiple states and entities.</li> <li>Process 1099 filings for all applicable entities.</li> <li>Gather and organize tax information from multiple companies to support income tax processing.</li> <li>Maintain organized, confidential tax files with disciplined scanning and archiving practices.</li> </ul> <p>What You're Great At</p> <ul> <li>Navigating complexity – you stay organized and accurate when managing multiple companies, entities, and deadlines at the same time.</li> <li>Accounting software mastery – you know QuickBooks inside and out and can hit the ground running across multiple sets of books.</li> <li>Attention to detail – you catch what others miss, and you take pride in financial statements that are accurate down to the last dollar.</li> <li>Independent execution – you manage your own workload, hit deadlines without being chased, and proactively communicate your progress.</li> <li>Problem solving – you identify discrepancies, root-cause them, and resolve them without letting issues linger.</li> <li>Clear communication – you can translate financial data into plain language and communicate effectively with supervisors, teammates, and virtual assistants alike.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>2-year degree from an accredited institution with 2+ years of experience as a bookkeeper or staff accountant OR a Bachelor's degree in Accounting OR 5+ years of equivalent accounting experience.</li> <li>Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks or similar products – you have managed multiple companies or sets of books within the platform.</li> <li>Experience working in a multi-entity environment, managing financials across more than one company simultaneously.</li> <li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Software, Google Drive, Asana, Bill.com and Dropbox.</li> <li>Strong command of core accounting principles including reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and cash flow analysis.</li> </ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Experience with multi-state tax filings (franchise, sales, excise, or 1099s).</li> <li>Real estate or property management accounting experience is a strong plus.</li> <li>Familiarity with virtual assistant workflows or managing financial review processes for remote team members.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Compensation: </strong>$28–$34 per hour, depending on experience. This is an in-office position in Bellingham, WA.&nbsp;</p>
