The Role

SHARE Family & Community Services is looking for a strategic, hands-on Senior Accountant to join our team in the Tri-Cities. This isn't just a "numbers job", it is an opportunity to be a financial architect for an organization that changes lives every day.

 

This role will primarily support our 43Housing Program, ensuring strong financial oversight, accurate reporting, and effective use of financial systems to support housing operations and funding requirements.

Key Impact Areas

As the lead for our financial operations, you will be the bridge between complex data and strategic action.

 

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Develop and maintain internal financial controls and accounting policies in accordance with GAAP and organizational standards.
  • Provide financial oversight for the Housing program, including rent revenue tracking, subsidy reconciliation, and monthly financial and program specific reports.
  • Reconcile Housing systems data and 43Housing Bank Accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy of housing-related financial records.

 

Audit, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Coordinate annual financial audits and ensure audit readiness of all financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with all funder reporting requirements, regulatory bodies, and internal policies.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies to leadership.
  • Ensure housing-related financial data in the system meet audit and compliance standards, including tenant receivables and subsidy reporting.

 

Grants and Contract Management

  • Track revenue and expenditures related to grants and contracts.
  • Support program staff with budget development for proposals and reporting on restricted funds.
  • Ensure proper allocation of funding and adherence to restrictions and timelines.
  • Support the Housing program in managing operating agreements, subsidies, and rent-geared-to-income (RGI) calculations from a financial perspective.

 

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise, mentor, and support bookkeepers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and strong customer service within the finance team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of efficient financial systems and practices.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a finance liaison to other departments and support program managers in financial literacy and planning.
  • Participate in cross-departmental projects and organizational initiatives requiring financial oversight.
  • Act as the primary finance partner to the Housing team, translating financial data into actionable insights for program operations and decision-making.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Housing to manage capital planning, funding allocations, and maintenance budgets.

 

What You Bring

You are a meticulous professional with a "big picture" mindset. You enjoy the challenge of not-for-profit accounting and have a knack for making financial data accessible to non-finance colleagues.

 

Your Toolkit includes:

  • Credential: A CPA designation in good standing with CPA BC.
  • Experienced: 3+ years in financial management, ideally within the charitable or not-for-profit sector.
  • Knowledgeable: Deep understanding of Canadian NPO accounting standards.
  • Leader: Proven ability to build cohesive, high-performing teams and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Experience working with Arcori Housing system is an asset.

 

The Logistics

  • Status: Full-Time, Exempt.
  • Location: Tri-Cities – Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody
  • Availability: Monday to Friday, regular hours with some evening/weekend flexibility for key meetings or cycles.
  • Start Date: Immediately – we’re ready for you!
