<p data-start="306" data-end="630">We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join an Adult Acute team in South Wales on a locum basis. This exciting opportunity involves working across inpatient services, supporting adults with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties arising from acute medical conditions.</p>
<p data-start="632" data-end="1057">This role is suitable for an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist looking to broaden their acute experience or a Band 7 clinician seeking a flexible locum opportunity within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. You will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with complex speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs, helping to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="18w7bso" data-start="1059" data-end="1082">Key Responsibilities</h2>
<p data-start="1084" data-end="1107">In this role, you will:</p>
<p data-start="1109" data-end="2093">• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults presenting with communication and swallowing disorders within acute inpatient services.<br data-start="1234" data-end="1237">• Deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with dysphagia, acquired communication disorders, cognitive-communication difficulties, and neurological conditions.<br data-start="1405" data-end="1408">• Undertake comprehensive swallowing assessments and provide appropriate management plans to support safe nutrition and hydration.<br data-start="1538" data-end="1541">• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical staff, nursing teams, dietitians, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists.<br data-start="1691" data-end="1694">• Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and discharge planning meetings.<br data-start="1774" data-end="1777">• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.<br data-start="1890" data-end="1893">• Provide advice, education, and support to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals.<br data-start="1994" data-end="1997">• Contribute to service development initiatives and support junior colleagues where appropriate.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="q8b9ki" data-start="2095" data-end="2127">Qualifications and Experience</h2>
<p data-start="2129" data-end="2175">To be considered for this role, you must have:</p>
<p data-start="2177" data-end="2686">• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).<br data-start="2246" data-end="2249">• Current HCPC registration.<br data-start="2277" data-end="2280">• Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).<br data-start="2356" data-end="2359">• Previous experience working within adult acute inpatient services.<br data-start="2427" data-end="2430">• Experience managing patients with dysphagia and complex communication needs.<br data-start="2508" data-end="2511">• Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.<br data-start="2584" data-end="2587">• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.</p>
