We seek a talented, highly motivated Analyst/Senior Analyst to be a part of our Indonesia team based in Jakarta.
The candidate should be motivated to help the world’s premier companies understand Indonesia, find alignment with customers, communities, and key stakeholders, and help Indonesia evolve by considering the ideas and capabilities of top-tier companies that want to invest in Indonesia.
Position Responsibilities
- Understand the intent behind political and regulatory developments, including who is driving a decision, whose interests are at stake, and why the outcome is moving in a particular direction. The role requires looking beyond the formal process to understand the deeper dynamics shaping policy and regulation.
- Gather intelligence, track developments relevant to clients, and analyze the business, investment, and political implications of government regulations, policies, legislation, and stakeholder movements for clients’ strategy and operations.
- Map the formal and informal networks around key decision-makers in government, industry, civil society, media, and other relevant stakeholder groups, and explain what those relationships mean in practice.
- Identify where decisions are likely to be made, who needs to be understood or engaged, and what sequence of engagement is likely to be most effective.
- Engage public and private-sector stakeholders, civil society, media, and other influencers independently and on behalf of clients, drawing on sound judgment, established relationships, and creative approaches to access and advocacy.
- Turn political and stakeholder intelligence into clear, confident advice clients can act on, i.e., helps clients understand what is happening, why it matters, and what they should do next. Strong written memos, reports, stakeholder maps, briefings, and presentations are a plus, but these are meant to support the aforementioned objective.
- Work collaboratively with BGA teams in Indonesia and across the region, including on client projects, internal initiatives, and cross-market assignments.
Job Requirements
- This role is for someone who can operate at the intersection of political intelligence and client advisory. The right candidate not only follows policy developments. They can interpret the political forces behind them, assess what they mean for business, and communicate that judgment clearly to clients.
- A strong grasp of Indonesia’s political economy. how decisions actually get made and how formal institutions interact with the informal networks that often shape outcomes.
- Strong political judgment and stakeholder awareness, with the ability to assess complex and fast-moving situations without relying only on official statements, public narratives, or surface-level process.
- The ability to identify the real decision-makers and relevant influencers in a given context, understand what drives them, and assess how their positions may affect client priorities.
- Intellectual confidence and discipline. the ability to form a view, support it with evidence and judgment, and communicate it clearly even when the situation is ambiguous.
- Business acumen, including a working understanding of how multinational companies operate in Indonesia, what they are trying to achieve, and how political and regulatory risk translates into commercial reality.
- The ability to work independently under pressure while collaborating effectively across teams.
- The ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines without losing clarity, accuracy, or attention to detail.
- Comfort engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including corporate government affairs teams, government officials, journalists, civil society representatives, and industry experts.
- Ability to interpret both formal and informal political dynamics, identify key decision-makers, stakeholder interests, and leverage points, and translate these insights into clear, analytical, and actionable recommendations for clients.
Qualifications
- Background in government, public policy, political affairs, political risk, journalism, research, consulting, government affairs, or a closely related field.
- A deep understanding of how political and regulatory decisions are made in Indonesia, including both formal processes and the informal dynamics, stakeholder interests, factional considerations, and institutional relationships that shape outcomes.
- The ability to quickly identify who matters in a given policy or business context, understand what drives them, and map the relationships around them.
- Sharp analytical judgment and the confidence to offer clear, practical, and well-supported analysis, including when the implications are not obvious from the official record.
- Familiarity with or genuine interest in one or more relevant sectors, including healthcare and pharmaceuticals, information and communications technology, financial services, natural resources, consumer goods, or other sectors relevant to Indonesia’s investment environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with the ability to brief clearly and confidently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce is a plus.
- Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree, master’s degree is preferred.
This position is based in Jakarta and reports to the Managing Director and Senior Manager.
