  • **Internship Program Description: Desktop Support Technician** **Position Overview:** The Desktop Support Technician Intern provides technical support for desktop computers, applications, and related technology within the university's Office of Information Technology (OIT). This role assists in resolving hardware and software issues, configuring computer systems, and providing end-user support. The intern will work closely with IT staff and end-users to ensure smooth operation of computer systems and peripherals. **Essential Duties & Responsibilities:** 1. Assist in resolving hardware and software problems promptly, minimizing disruption to end-users, and coordinating hardware repairs with vendors. 2. Participate in installing and configuring computer hardware and software according to term schedules and established standards. 3. Provide support to faculty, staff, and students with desktop and network software, from installation to troubleshooting. 4. Log, update, and assist in solving outstanding Help Desk tickets. 5. Aid in maintaining hardware and software inventory and documentation. 6. Collaborate with IT Project Manager, Applications Manager, and Infrastructure Manager to coordinate University IT needs. 7. Support on-call schedule and respond to priority incidents as required. 8. Assist in testing computers to ensure proper functionality. 9. Assist in physical setup of computers and software system installation for various applications. 10. Participate in identifying and troubleshooting routine problems affecting computer operating systems and servers. 11. Support examination and maintenance of network equipment, servers systems, etc. 12. Assist in training staff and orienting them on computer hardware and software systems. 13. Aid in maintaining other computer peripheral devices such as printers, copiers, and audiovisual equipment. 14. Coordinate computer maintenance with other IT professionals. 15. Support drive imaging and ghosting procedures. 16. Engage in other duties as assigned by management. 17. Participate in weekly meetings with IT staff to discuss Help Desk related matters and updates. **Standards & Expectations:** 1. Expectations of the job: The internship entails a variety of duties requiring the application of different processes and methods to IT tasks and projects. Interns may interact with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The work environment may include office settings, computer labs, or other designated areas with time pressures and distractions. 2. Development and Counseling: Interns are encouraged to participate in activities that aid in career development and job performance. Supervisors provide guidance and support. 3. Training: Training opportunities are available to enhance skill and knowledge levels in IT practices and industry standards. **Note:** This internship may involve lifting and moving computer equipment up to 50 pounds and crouching in tight locations for hardware installation. Travel to satellite locations if necessary.
