Senior Backend Engineer, Food Systems (all genders)

By working with our Warsaw office, you will help shape scalable, data-driven products used across our markets, working with a modern tech stack and international teams to continuously improve how people discover, order, and enjoy HelloFresh’s products, today and in the future.</p> <h2><strong>About the role: What's in the Box</strong></h2> <p>You will collaborate with the Food Systems Alliance at a pivotal moment as the organization transitions from bespoke operational tooling toward scalable software products that support the global supply chain. In this role, you’ll help translate complex business processes — such as route planning, procurement, and menu planning — into robust and reliable technical solutions.</p> <p>Your initial focus will be enhancing and optimizing tools that support day-to-day production operations, while contributing longer term to the development of modular, globally scalable systems that support HelloFresh’s food supply chain across multiple regions.</p> <h2><strong>What you’ll do: The Recipe</strong></h2> <ul> <li><strong>Design and develop </strong>software products and workflow tooling supporting global supply chain operations, from ingredient planning to logistics.</li> <li><strong>Contribute</strong> to the evolution of existing tooling and data processes into modular, scalable backend solutions aligned with HelloFresh’s growth.</li> <li><strong>Work</strong> closely with stakeholders across Procurement, Production, and Data Engineering to help translate operational requirements into technical solutions.</li> <li><strong>Contribute</strong> to engineering best practices around code quality, reliability, maintainability, and system design within the broader engineering setup.</li> <li><strong>Improve and optimize</strong> complex data workflows and production logic to support evolving operational needs.</li> <li><strong>Support</strong> knowledge sharing and collaboration across engineers through activities such as code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What you’ll bring: The Ingredients&nbsp;</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Extensive backend engineering experience, ideally within JVM-based ecosystems such as Kotlin or Java. Experience with Python is a plus, especially in operational or workflow-heavy environments.</li> <li>Strong experience building scalable backend systems and services, including familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.</li> <li>Basic SQL and data modeling skills, with the ability to work confidently in data-heavy domains. Exposure to tools like Airflow, Databricks, or Pandas is beneficial but not required.</li> <li>Experience designing modular, maintainable systems and translating complex business processes into reliable technical solutions.</li> <li>Familiarity with modern cloud and infrastructure tooling such as AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices.</li> <li>An agile and product-minded approach to problem solving, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, collaborate closely with stakeholders, and proactively shape solutions.</li> </ul> <p>Above all, we are looking for individuals who will <strong>make HelloFresh better.</strong> We believe there are many different ways of developing skills and we love diverse experiences!
