Relief; On-call; weekdays, weekend

SALARY:



$51,000 - 52,000

START DATE:


As soon as possible

PROBATION:
Three (3) month probation period, after which an evaluation will be conducted.

JOB SUMMARY

The Residential Support Worker provides front-line, trauma-informed support to clients within the shelter, ensuring a safe, respectful, and structured environment. The role involves monitoring daily activities, supporting client routines, responding to crisis situations, and ensuring that house rules and policies are followed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all rules and regulations are respected by clients
  • Obtain update from previous shift;
  • Provide update to next shift;
  • Complete client intake and departure forms;
  • Complete client “in” and “out” sheets;
  • Monitor client’s medication;
  • Read daily shift reports;
  • Prepare and complete daily shift reports;
  •  Respond to crisis situations;
  • Provide active and supportive listening;
  • Answer telephones and record messages;
  • Provide appropriate referrals to clients;
  • Oversee wake-up routines of clients;
  • Oversee breakfast routines;
  • Clean rooms, which includes but is not limited to vacuuming, washing floors, do    laundry, disinfect room;
  • Participate in staff training;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Be prepared to make responsible decisions on shift and follow through accordingly;
  • Attend case Management;
  • Follow the policy and procedures of the NWSM;
  • Other related duties as required by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally sensitive support
  • Active listening and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions and work independently on shift
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Teamwork and effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Flexibility, reliability, and strong sense of responsibility

Education & Experience

  • DEC or Bachelor degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1 to 2 years of experiences working in a shelter, residential, or community-based setting (asset)
  • 1 to 2 years experiences supporting vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing crisis (asset)
  • Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation, or trauma-informed care 
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, and realities
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting
  • Bilingualism (French and English) 

Relief Workers must be available for all shifts (8-4, noon-8, 4-midnight and midnight-8) Monday – Sunday. Seniority will be respected by the date you were hired. However, if you turn down 3 consecutive shifts without a valid reason you will be placed at the bottom of the list for being contacted for covering shifts.
