About the role
The Billing Assistant provides outstanding service to patients by answering
phone calls, receiving walk-ins, scheduling appointments, verifying patient benefits, advising patients of co-payments, and escorting them to the respective areas for further care and attention.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enter information necessary for insurance claims such as patient, insurance ID, diagnosis and treatment codes and modifiers, and provider information.
- Ensure claim information is complete and accurate in billing software.
- Verify patient benefits eligibility and coverage by calling insurance companies for authorization.
- Collect payment and print receipts for all patients.
- Answer patient questions on patient responsible portions, co-pays, deductibles, write-offs, etc.
- Resolve patient complaints or explain why certain services are not covered.
- Book appointment and make daily calls to patients to remind of appointments on the next day.
- Ensure daily transactions sheets for each doctor are printed and cash float for each doctor is balanced at the end of the day.
- Manage patient records in EMR system ensuring that all items are properly scanned for each visit and files are complete.
- Assist Patient Care Technicians with blood draws or triage processes if necessary.
- Any other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as billing clerk or general accounting experience
- Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel)
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- High school diploma; further education is a plus
