This position is an in-person, on campus faculty position.

 

Under minimal supervision, the Building Construction Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in building construction across a variety of instructional formats and locations. The instructor will support student learning and success while developing and maintaining curriculum aligned with industry standards and workforce needs.

 

Instructional emphasis includes residential, commercial, and light industrial construction; carpentry and framing systems; blueprint reading; concrete and foundations; roofing systems; interior and exterior finishes; construction materials and methods; and troubleshooting, repair, and project management techniques. The instructor will also integrate safety standards, sustainability practices, and relevant technologies used in the construction industry.

 

The instructor must be able to read and interpret technical documents such as safety regulations, building codes, blueprints, and construction manuals. Responsibilities include documenting student progress, maintaining accurate records, and utilizing instructional technologies and tools relevant to the trade.

 

Additionally, the instructor will collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure a high-quality educational experience for a diverse student population while adhering to the College’s mission, policies, and procedures.

 

Requirements: 

Education: Requires an associate’s degree in Building Construction, Construction Technology, or a closely related field.  Bachelor’s degree preferred. A combination of licensure and/or certification in conjunction with work experience may be considered in the absence of a college degree.

Must hold (or be willing to obtain) OSHA certification, forklift certification, and other industry certifications preferred.

Experience: Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in building construction. Experience in residential and/or commercial construction preferred.

Skills:

  1. Strong knowledge of construction methods.
  2. Proficient in reading and applying building codes, blueprints, and construction schematics.
  3. Ability to demonstrate and teach carpentry, framing, finishing, and general construction techniques.
  4. Knowledge of safety practices, tools, and equipment used in the building construction trade.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
  6. Basic computer skills and ability to use instructional technologies.
  7. Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices.

Special Instructions to Applicant: Applicants selected for an interview will be expected to provide a 10–15-minute teaching presentation on how to properly hang and trim an interior door to the search committee (students).
