CHILDREN’S SERVICES LEAD COORDINATOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Director of Children’s Services
Hours: Part Time,20 hours per week.
Location: Duval, WA (Hybrid – minimum 50% in-person)
Schedule: Flexible; Required: In-person availability on Monday afternoons for department meetings (approx. 3 hours); once a month Wednesday all staff meetings (approximately 11am-1pm). Monday and Thursdays for program nights.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position requires a highly motivated person with a heart of compassion and love, as well as the ability to practice sound judgment and discernment, as they walk alongside moms and children who are experiencing homelessness. The Children’s Services Lead Coordinator facilitates and implements engaging, developmentally appropriate, programming for preschoolers and toddlers, ensuring alignment with program goals in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Director of Children’s Services. They also oversee and support volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to engage effectively while maintaining site security and high-quality, trauma-informed programming. The successful candidate will have the proven ability to run programs, troubleshoot issues, empower and coordinate volunteers, and provide holistic support to kids with trauma.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate programming for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children, during program nights, ensuring alignment with program goals.
- Lead and actively run program nights, including directly interacting with children, facilitating activities, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.
- Oversee and support volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to engage effectively while maintaining site security and high-quality, trauma-informed programming.
- Help identify the needs of Acres children and provide resources and interventions to address those needs, including partnering with Moms for resources and interventions as they are the primary expert and provider for their child.
- Create and implement a plan for building out current kids’ program activities to meet the needs of Acres children holistically.
- Support the Children’s Services team to help recruit and on-board volunteers to support Acres kids.
- Work to develop and maintain long-term relationships and committed, volunteer teams to support staff during program nights (Mondays and Thursdays) and help ensure that there are sufficient volunteers for child safety.
- Drive van as needed to transport families to and from program nights.
- Support the Children’s Services team to establish and track metrics indicating efficacy of kids’ program.
- Execute established polices for child safety created by the Director of Children’s Services. Equip staff and volunteers in current policies and explain and enforce as necessary.
- Build and model positive relationships and boundaries with residents, staff, and volunteers.
- Develop a growing knowledge of our resident population that informs all other duties.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings and accept responsibility for the development of positive team relationships.
- Maintain strict resident and donor confidentiality, objectivity, and professional boundaries.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Children’s Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and active in a Christian church.
- 1-2 years’ experience in working with children required.
- Experience working with kids from diverse backgrounds.
- Degree in related field (e.g. child development, early childhood education, elementary education) preferred
- Experience with, or understanding of Trauma-Informed Care and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) preferred.
- Valid Washington state driver’s license and ability to travel to offsite meetings.
- The ability to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion.
REQUIRED SKILLS

- The ability to stay calm and grounded during chaotic and stressful interactions and environments.
- The ability to solve problems and think creatively when quick responses are needed.
- Exhibit excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to facilitate effective interactions with residents, children, donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Sensitivity to the needs of residents, staff, and volunteers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- General working knowledge of Office 365, Outlook, and Internet navigation.
- The ability to maintain healthy boundaries and self-care in stressful environments, and coach others in doing the same.
