About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Document Translation: Translate various types of documents, including legal, technical, medical, and marketing materials from Chinese to English and vice versa, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Interpretation: Provide live interpretation services during meetings, conferences, or phone calls, enabling clear communication between Chinese and English-speaking parties.
- Cultural Localization: Adapt translations to ensure they are culturally appropriate for the target audience, considering idiomatic expressions, cultural references, and tone.
- Proofreading and Editing: Review and revise translated materials to ensure they are free from errors and convey the intended meaning accurately.
- Multimedia Translation: Translate subtitles, captions, or scripts for videos, webinars, and other multimedia content, maintaining the correct tone and meaning.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other translators, editors, and project managers to ensure consistency and quality across all translations.
- Project Management: Manage multiple translation projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and client requirements.
- Terminology Management: Maintain glossaries, translation memory, and other language tools to ensure consistent use of terminology.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and English.
- Proven experience as a translator or interpreter, with a portfolio of translated work.
- Excellent understanding of cultural differences between Chinese-speaking regions and English-speaking countries.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain the original tone and meaning in translations.
- Experience with translation tools such as CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
