CNC Setup Machinist (Horizontal Mill)

Position Summary

South Bay Solutions is seeking an experienced CNC Setup Machinist to set up and operate horizontal milling machines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring machines are properly configured, running efficiently, and producing high-quality parts that meet engineering specifications. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in troubleshooting, process improvement, and in-process inspection.

Shift: Swing

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC horizontal milling machines according to blueprints and specifications
• Interpret technical drawings, engineering documentation, and work instructions
• Monitor machine performance and ensure efficient, uninterrupted production
• Inspect and measure parts to verify conformance to specifications
• Troubleshoot issues related to tooling, materials, programs, and equipment
• Document setup processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and quality
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
• Perform routine machine maintenance and shop upkeep
• Suggest improvements to part design for manufacturability
• Operate and manage multiple machines simultaneously
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Proficient in CNC machining setup and operation (horizontal mills)
• Experience with FANUC controls (preferred)
• Experience with Matsuura horizontal milling machines (preferred)
• Ability to inspect parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple machines and priorities effectively
• Basic computer skills and ability to document processes
• Solid math skills including basic geometry and measurements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Education & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of CNC horizontal mill setup experience
• Machining certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship program preferred
• Experience in a manufacturing or precision machining environment
