Overview
Position Summary
The Collision Body Shop Foreman (Working) leads by example on the shop floor, combining hands-on repair work with day-to-day coordination of production, quality, and safety in an OEM certified environment. This role dispatches work to technicians, supports blueprinting and repair planning, performs complex structural and cosmetic repairs, and conducts stage gate quality checks to ensure all repairs meet OEM procedures and dealership standards. The Foreman collaborates closely with estimators, parts, paint, and production/quality teams to achieve cycle time targets, reduce comebacks, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced structural, body, and trim repairs; assist with diagnostics, fit and finish, and repair validations as needed.
- Assign and dispatch jobs based on technician skills, certification, and bay availability while balancing workloads to meet promised delivery dates.
- Lead comprehensive teardowns, damage mapping, and documentation during the repair process while verifying OEM procedures and required calibrations up front.
- Execute stage gate inspections (post teardown, pre-paint, post reassembly) and final delivery checks for fit, finish, and OEM compliance as a quality control measure for the shop.
- Provide Technicians with on the floor guidance, mentoring, and troubleshooting to improve repair methods, safety, and first-time quality.
- Monitor KPIs such as touch time, cycle time, on time delivery, rework rates, and CSI; escalate barriers and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with parts staff to verify accuracy, manage shortages/returns, and minimize delays caused by parts variances.
- Coordinate with estimators on supplements uncovered during teardown/repairs while ensuring accurate notes and photo documentation are provided to DRPs in our documentation.
- Enforce shop safety protocols, PPE usage, hazardous materials handling, and housekeeping while maintaining OEM certification requirements and compliance documentation.
- Verify calibration, maintenance, and availability of structural equipment, welders, riveters, and ADAS related tools.
- Coordinate sublet scheduling (glass, alignments, ADAS calibrations, mechanical) to align with production timelines.
- Maintain clear cross department communication with service, detail, and delivery teams to ensure smooth handoffs and customer satisfaction.
- Identify process gaps, recommend improvements (5S/lean practices), and help implement standardized work.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of collision repair experience with demonstrated proficiency in structural and cosmetic repairs; leadership or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OEM repair procedures, structural repair methods, bonding/riveting, and corrosion protection.
- Experience in blueprinting/repair planning and stage gate quality inspections; OEM certified shop or dealership experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with estimating platforms (CCC, Mitchell, Audatex), digital photo documentation, and dealership/shop management systems.
- Excellent communication, coaching, organization, and problem-solving skills; calm under pressure with high attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage dispatch, prioritize work, and maintain production flow in a high-volume environment.
- Working knowledge of shop safety standards, hazardous materials handling, and regulatory compliance.
- ICAR Platinum/Gold Class and/or OEM brand certifications preferred (welding, structural, aluminum, ADAS awareness).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
