About the role
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the first point of contact for bunker masters, captains and shore-based teams when they face issues with IT equipment, software or digital tools.
- Provide practical day-to-day support to barge operations, ensuring that users receive quick and effective assistance.
- Work closely with the IT department to ensure that the right equipment, software and connectivity are available for our barges at the right time and place.
- Support the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the department’s digital tools.
- Help drive adoption and usage of new systems and digital processes across the commercial organisation.
- Identify inefficiencies in existing workflows and suggest practical digital solutions to improve them.
- Participate in cross-functional projects involving commercial, operational and support teams.
- Assist with the creation, development and maintenance of reporting tools, dashboards and databases.
- Contribute to the development of new tools and solutions, including Excel-based systems, databases and automation opportunities.
- Support the department in monitoring and measuring the impact of digitalisation initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- We are looking for a candidate with either a formal IT background or degree, or operational experience from working on board vessels, combined with a strong interest in technology and digital solutions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in a simple and practical way to seafarers, captains and operational staff.
- A hands-on, service-minded attitude with the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables and general spreadsheet-based problem solving.
- Experience with reporting, data visualisation and dashboarding tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau would be an advantage.
- An understanding of databases and data structures would be beneficial, particularly experience with SQL.
- Interest or experience in automation, tool development, low-code/no-code solutions or AI-supported development methods such as vibe coding would be an advantage.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- A proactive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and continuously improve processes and tools.
- Enthusiasm for digitalisation, process improvement and helping users get the most out of technology.
