About the role
The Victoria Police Department is seeking two (2) Constables for for the Foot Patrol Team (formerly called the Beat Team), supporting the City of Victoria's Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan. The purpose and mandate of the Foot Patrol Team is to foster enhanced coordinated enforcement and service-linked responses to disorder, encampments, and property-related concerns. The Foot Patrol Team will act as liaisons, facilitating seamless communication and joint action on complex community safety issues.

Job Description:
- Operational, working 10 hour shift schedule, combination of dayshifts and afternoon shifts
- Work alongside City of Victoria to seek compliance and enforce, City bylaws, various Provincial Statutes, Federal Statues and the Criminal Code of Canada
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners
- Effectively communicate with individuals and groups, work collaboratively with City of Victoria, CSD’s outreach teams and other community / partner agencies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be a motivated self-starter and demonstrate strong team-work skills
- Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability working with community groups and partner agencies
- Well-developed crisis intervention and de-escalation (CID) skills
- Demonstrated ability building connections with and interacting with marginalized populations
- Working knowledge of City of Victoria Bylaws - including Streets/Traffic Bylaws, and Parks Regulation Bylaws
- Working knowledge of Provincial Statutes - including the Safe Streets Act
- Working knowledge of social service support agencies (provincial, regional, local) and services they provide
