This is a hands-on role focused on executing governance activities, supporting metadata cataloging, and applying practical data quality controls. Just as important, this person will act as a communicator and facilitator—helping form working groups, align business and technical teams, and coach client staff on how to take ownership as data stewards.</p> <p><strong>Core Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Facilitate data governance working groups to drive alignment between business and technology stakeholders.</li> <li>Execute metadata management activities such as cataloging, lineage capture, and stewardship workflows.</li> <li>Partner with business teams to draft and maintain business rules, definitions, and data quality controls.&nbsp;</li> <li>Apply data quality processes such as profiling, monitoring, and issue management, ensuring rules are practical and adopted.</li> <li>Support the installation, configuration, rollout and adoption of governance/metadata tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Purview).</li> <li>Coach client staff on data stewardship practices—showing them how to govern their data effectively and sustainably.</li> <li>Communicate governance concepts in clear business language; prepare presentations, training materials, and adoption guides.</li> <li>Provide input on access controls, privacy, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)</li> <li>Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business owners to embed governance into daily workflows, platform pipelines, modeling practices, and observability.</li> <li>Metadata Tools &amp; Platform Enablement</li> <ul> <li>Install and configure metadata/catalog tools in client environments.</li> <li>Build and curate catalogs, including ingestion of technical metadata, business glossaries, and lineage.</li> <li>Define user personas and design role-appropriate experiences (data stewards, data owners, analysts, engineers).</li> <li>Tailor tool UX (workflows, dashboards, search optimization) to improve usability and adoption.</li> <li>Configure governance workflows (e.g., DG asset approvals, stewardship assignments, issue tracking).</li> <li>Leverage and guide customers on AI-assisted features in modern tools (auto-classification, definition drafting, similarity matching, lineage discovery) to accelerate execution and adoption.</li> </ul> </ul> <p><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>5+ years of experience in data governance, metadata management, MDM, or related roles.</li> <li>Hands-on experience with data catalog/metadata tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Atlan, Purview).</li> <li>Exposure to data quality tools and processes (Informatica, Talend, Ataccama, or equivalent).</li> <li>Strong communication skills: able to facilitate workshops, write clear business documentation, and present to mixed audiences.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to define and obtain alignment for definition, business rules and data quality controls.</li> <li>Familiarity with governance operating models and stewardship practices.</li> <li>Knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and how governance practices support compliance</li> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience)</li> <li>Willingness to travel up to 50% per month (10 of 20 business days) when required by our clients</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Skills</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience leading or supporting data governance working groups or stewardship councils.</li> <li>Knowledge of data access provisioning, integration patterns, or lineage capture.</li> <li>Experience building adoption materials, training guides, or playbooks for governance programs.</li> <li>Prior client-facing consulting experience.</li> </ul><div class="content-conclusion"><p style="text-align: left;">phData celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
