About the Role
The Associate Controller is a key member of Kicksaw’s Finance team, reporting to the VP of Finance. In this role, you’ll own core accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll administration, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close.
You’ll play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening accounting processes, and supporting Kicksaw’s ability to scale with speed and discipline. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, highly organized, and excited to help build a strong accounting foundation within a growing, remote-first company.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
Complete ownership of day-to-day accounting activities and ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and timely.
Manage accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, collections, and cash application.
Manage accounts payable processes, including vendor payments, bill review, and payment tracking.
Maintain the general ledger and support accurate account classification.
Prepare and post monthly journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Support month-end and year-end close procedures with accuracy and timeliness.
Design, document, and enforce internal controls appropriate for a scaling professional services firm
Maintain the revenue recognition policy and apply technical judgment to new contract structures as they arise
Maintain and enforce the close calendar; drive timeliness and accuracy across the team
Manage consolidation across Kicksaw’s multi-entity structure, including intercompany eliminations and segment reporting
Partnership and support with M&A and Integration Accounting
Manage the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements; coordinate with outside tax advisors
Support sales tax analysis and compliance across multi-state client engagements
Manage compliance requests as needed.
Payroll & Employee Financial Programs
Administer biweekly payroll through Rippling.
Reconcile payroll-related accounts and coordinate with People Operations on payroll updates.
Manage employee expense reimbursements and ensure compliance with company policies.
Partner with FP&A on commission and bonus accrual calculations
Support administration of employee financial programs, including 401(k), benefits-related finance processes, and other Finance-owned initiatives.
Partner with internal teams and external vendors to ensure payroll, expense, and benefit-related financial data is accurate.
Reporting & Financial Support
Prepare recurring financial statements, schedules, and reporting support for the VP of Finance.
Provide accurate accounting data to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Partner with the Financial Analyst to ensure reporting inputs are accurate and complete.
Assist with cash management, collections reporting, and operational finance visibility.
Support ad hoc reporting and special finance projects as needed.
Systems, Process Improvement & Collaboration
Own the accounting tech stack (accounting system, expense management, billing tools) and drive adoption of best practices
Proactively identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows, and controls.
Help streamline month-end close and recurring accounting procedures.
Document repeatable processes to support consistency and scalability.
Collaborate cross-functionally with People Operations, Delivery, Sales, and other teams to support accurate financial operations.
Experiment with and actively incorporate AI tools and technologies to enhance productivity, decision-making, and overall work quality.
Assist in implementing new tools, systems, and Finance programs as Kicksaw grows.
Team Collaboration & Professional Growth
Contribute to a Finance team culture rooted in accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Provide guidance and support to junior team members where applicable.
Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices.
Experience managing month-end close processes and balance sheet reconciliations.
Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger accounting.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clean financial packages and document accounting policy clearly
High proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets; comfortable building and maintaining reconciliation models from scratch
Comfort learning and using financial systems, automation tools, and AI-enabled workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification or progress toward CPA certification.
Strong technical foundation in ASC 606 revenue recognition; Experience in a professional services, consulting, SaaS, or tech-enabled services environment.
Experience working in a high-growth or PE-backed company.
Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
Experience with Rippling or similar payroll/HRIS systems.
Experience supporting audit, tax, or compliance processes.
Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-segment accounting
Familiarity with Salesforce or PSA/project-based business models.
