About the role
Who we are
Apollo Tyres is an international tyre manufacturer of Indian origin and part of a rapidly growing global organization. The company operates manufacturing facilities in India and Europe, supported by sales offices worldwide. The Global R&D Centre is located in Enschede, the Netherlands, where approximately 160 employees work on the development of new passenger car tyres for the Apollo and Vredestein brands. In addition, Apollo Tyres operates a smaller R&D office in Vallendar, Germany, employing around 25 specialists.
The Testing Department within Apollo Global R&D is responsible for the evaluation and validation of prototype tyres. Testing activities are carried out both indoors, using advanced test machines, and outdoors on dedicated test tracks. The department operates internationally, conducting testing activities across Europe and beyond, with its main base at the European R&D Centre in Enschede.
The internship position is embedded within this Testing Department and offers exposure to international tyre testing operations in a professional R&D environment.
Objective or the assignment
Legislation is an important topic within our department, and regulatory requirements are becoming increasingly strict. At the same time, these tests are complex and costly to perform. As a result, test method development continuously focuses on optimizing existing test procedures.
Currently, three different snow tests are used: a traction test and a braking test (both required for legislation), as well as a combined traction and braking test used internally. The objective of this assignment is to investigate whether a correlation can be established between the internal combined test and the legislated traction test. Furthermore, the assignment aims to assess whether the current testing equipment is suitable for this purpose or if additional or alternative equipment is required.
