Customs Declaration Officer

Job Summary

The Customs Declaration Officer is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation, submission, and coordination of customs declarations for the import and export of goods. This role ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and procedures related to international trade and customs operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations in accordance with local and international customs laws and regulations.
• Verify documentation such as invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and transport documents.
• Classify goods using appropriate Harmonized System (HS) codes and apply correct duties, taxes, and exemptions.
• Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, brokers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth clearance processes.
• Monitor and resolve issues related to customs holds, inspections, or queries.
• Maintain accurate records of all customs documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
• Keep up to date with changes in customs legislation and international trade requirements.
• Support the development and implementation of internal compliance procedures.
• Assist with audits and internal investigations related to trade compliance.

Qualifications and Skills

• College or Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum [3-5] years of experience in customs clearance, logistics, or trade compliance.
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classification, and valuation methods.
• Proficiency in customs declaration software and electronic data interchange (EDI) platforms.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Certification in customs compliance or international trade (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist, ICC Academy certifications) is a plus.
