POSITION SUMMARY 

Principal purpose or function of the position.

 

You will be part of our UK’s multidisciplinary technical services team and will be responding to a variety of incidents and service requests across End User Support, Storage, Network, Virtualisation, Back, DR and Microsoft technologies.



You will be part of our UK multidisciplinary Technical Services team, acting as a senior escalation point and trusted technical authority across End User Support, Storage, Networking, Virtualisation, Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Microsoft cloud technologies.


The Senior Modern Digital Workplace Specialist is a senior, hands-on technical role responsible for the end-to-end design, delivery, optimisation, and standardisation of modern digital workplace solutions, with a focus on Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and cloud-native IaaS/PaaS services.

This role goes beyond engineering execution — you will own solution design, contribute to frameworks and service playbooks, and help shape how services are defined, packaged, and delivered consistently across our managed services environment.


You will operate across Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, Intune, and Entra ID, while supporting broader Azure platforms, balancing hands-on delivery, architectural ownership, and client-facing consultancy.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Mandatory

·       Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS & PaaS), including design and implementation

·       Proven experience delivering modern digital workplace solutions in an MSP or enterprise environment

·       Demonstrable experience owning solution design end-to-end, from requirements through to handover

Deep knowledge of:

·       Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and/or Windows 365

·       Microsoft Intune, compliance, and device management

·       Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, identity and access security

·       Windows 10/11 Enterprise

·       Experience supporting production cloud environments across BAU, escalations, and project delivery

·       Ability to produce high-quality design artefacts (HLDs, LLDs, runbooks, operational documentation)

·       Strong stakeholder engagement and client-facing communication skills



Highly Desirable

·       Experience working with or applying architecture frameworks (e.g. CAF, WAF, TOGAF) — or defining your own structured design methodology

·       Experience building service frameworks, delivery playbooks, or standardised operating models

·       Exposure to Defender XDR, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Cloud

·       Automation experience (PowerShell, Azure Automation)

·       Knowledge of Zero Trust and cloud security best practices

·       Experience in regulated or professional services environments

·       ITIL certification (or equivalent)



KEY JOB ELEMENTS

 Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Solution Design & Architecture Ownership

·       Lead the design of greenfield and migration solutions, starting from requirements gathering through to final architecture

·       Own end-to-end solution design, including sign-off, documentation, and transition to support teams

·       Apply structured approaches to architecture (frameworks, methodologies, or internal standards)

·       Ensure designs are secure, scalable, cost-optimised, and aligned with best practice

2. Modern Digital Workplace Engineering

·       Design, implement, and support Azure-based digital workplace solutions (AVD, Windows 365)

·       Build and maintain Azure IaaS platforms (VMs, networking, storage, backup, DR)

·       Integrate relevant Azure PaaS services into workplace and end-user solutions

·       Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues

3. Endpoint & Microsoft 365 Platform

·       Architect and support Intune for device compliance, configuration, and lifecycle management

·       Design and troubleshoot compliance and conditional access policies, including root cause analysis of device and sign-in issues

·       Support Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)

·       Integrate endpoint management with Microsoft security tooling (Defender suite)

4. Cloud Operations & Service Reliability

·       Operate Azure environments including networking, security, backup, monitoring, and recovery

·       Drive improvements in performance, cost optimisation, and service resilience

·       Support incident, problem, and change management aligned to ITIL practices

·       Handle complex environments with multiple dependencies, stakeholders, and constraints

5. Frameworks, Playbooks & Service Standardisation

·       Design and implement repeatable delivery frameworks, migration approaches, and service playbooks

·       Build and refine runbooks, templates, and standard operating procedures

·       Improve consistency and quality of delivery across the team

·       Define phases, deliverables, and governance checkpoints for key services (e.g. migrations, deployments)

6. Continuous Improvement & Service Efficiency

·       Identify and implement improvements to increase automation, efficiency, and service quality

·       Eliminate manual processes through standardisation and tooling

·       Introduce structured workflows, templates, and governance to improve delivery outcomes

7. Client Engagement & Service Packaging

·       Act as a senior technical advisor and escalation point for customers

·       Lead technical workshops, design sessions, and service reviews

·       Support pre-sales and consultancy by helping shape, scope, and position services

·       Translate internal capabilities into clearly defined, repeatable, and scalable service offerings
