<p>Whop is seeking an Director, Accounting to build the company’s accounting foundation from the ground up.This is a hands-on role responsible for all aspects of accounting operations — including accounting, internal controls, month-end close, financial reporting, tax compliance, and audit readiness.</p>
<p>You will partner closely with the Corporate Controller and Head/ VP of Finance to transform Whop’s accounting function from startup mode into a disciplined, scalable operation.</p>
<p>This is an ideal role for a builder — someone who enjoys designing processes, leading from the front, and establishing strong financial hygiene in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.</p>
<p><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></p>
<p><strong>Build the Foundation</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Assist the Controller in design and implementation of Whop’s formal accounting policies, processes, and internal controls.</li>
<li>Establish a structured month-end and year-end close process.</li>
<li>Lead accounting system upgrades, process automation, and data quality initiatives.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Lead Core Accounting Operations</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Oversee all GL accounting, revenue recognition, cost of sales, payroll, and accruals.</li>
<li>Manage cash, crypto, and other digital asset reconciliations.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Financial Reporting & Compliance</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Preparing and owning the financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).</li>
<li>Ensuring compliance with GAAP (or IFRS) accounting policies.</li>
<li>Managing technical accounting questions — revenue recognition, equity, leases, etc.</li>
<li>Owning the chart of accounts and accounting policy documentation.</li>
<li>Develop accounting schedules and support investor, board, and management reporting.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Internal Controls & Systems</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Designing and maintaining the internal control environment (especially important pre-audit or as you scale).</li>
<li>Owning the ERP/accounting system and chart of accounts.</li>
<li>AP/AR oversight and cash reconciliation.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Foreign Entities </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Leading the decision and setup of new legal entities in foreign jurisdictions (working with local counsel and tax advisors).</li>
<li>Determining the right entity structure (branch vs. subsidiary, etc.).</li>
<li>Setting up local statutory reporting requirements.</li>
<li>Managing inter-company accounting and elimination entries.</li>
<li>Currency/FX accounting — functional currency determinations, translation vs. remeasurement.</li>
<li>Ensuring local payroll, VAT registration, and statutory filings are in place.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>People & Systems</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Supervise and develop the company’s accounting team and external consultants.</li>
<li>Evaluate and implement scalable systems (ERP, accounting automation, expense management, and payroll integrations).</li>
<li>Drive accountability, documentation, and data integrity across all financial operations.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Audit & External Relationships</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Issuing the RFP, evaluating firms, and making the recommendation (though final sign-off often sits with the CFO/board/audit committee).</li>
<li>Managing the day-to-day audit relationship once selected — preparing schedules, responding to requests, coordinating PBC (prepared by client) lists.</li>
<li>Liaison to external tax advisors for compliance filings.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What You Bring</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>12+ years of progressive accounting experience.</li>
<li>Strong operational and technical accounting background (US GAAP) — ideally with experience in SaaS, marketplace, or fintech revenue recognition.</li>
<li>Hands-on operator: comfortable working in systems (NetSuite, Campfire, FloQast, Ramp or similar) and designing processes.</li>
<li>Experience with audit management and financial statement preparation.</li>
<li>Proven ability to hire, mentor, and scale a small team.</li>
<li>CPA license or Big 4 background strongly preferred.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience implementing ERP or financial systems (NetSuite, Campfire, Ramp or FloQast).</li>
<li>Exposure to payments/ fintech or ads accounting .</li>
<li>Prior startup or marketplace experience — ability to thrive in ambiguity and build from scratch.</li>
</ul>
<p>The expected salary range for this position is $180,000 to $220,000 annually, with final compensation determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.</p>
