Senior Director, Contracts, Alliances and Intellectual Property

Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.&nbsp; Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science, and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.</p> <p><strong>Position Description:</strong></p> <p>Calico is seeking an exceptional and experienced individual to lead our Contracts group which provides business, contractual, and intellectual property support for Calico’s external collaborations, internal research activities, and drug discovery programs. This role will be responsible for working closely with Calico scientists, Drug Discovery teams, and external academic and industry collaborators, to lead and negotiate a wide variety of agreements in support of Calico’s research and development programs, with assistance as needed from Calico’s legal and IP counsel. &nbsp;Agreements include, but are not limited to, sponsored research agreements, licenses, CDAs, material transfer agreements, master services agreements, consulting agreements, software agreements, manufacturing and supply agreements, contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) agreements, technology transfer agreements, and related amendments. &nbsp;Additionally, this role would also support a number of active research collaborations. Within the Business Development group, this individual will collaborate closely with several internal groups, including Senior Leadership, Alliance Management, CMC, Finance, and project teams, in support of Calico’s corporate goals. This person will report directly to the Chief Business Officer.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Position Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree required, Ph.D. or JD is preferred&nbsp;</li> <li>Extensive industry or academic/institutional experience with a minimum of 10 years of experience in contracts negotiation/management or business development roles that require working closely with current and/or prospective partners</li> <li>Prior experience negotiating a wide variety of agreements in a research-focused healthcare company</li> <li>Prior experience providing advice and managing an intellectual property portfolio, in collaboration with IP counsel</li> <li>Prior experience supporting CMC-related agreements, including CDMO, manufacturing and supply, quality, and technology transfer agreements, in support of IND-enabling or clinical-stage programs</li> <li>Exceptional communication, independent decision-making and analytical skills, the capacity to manage and respond to multiple priorities, as well as a proven ability to build both internal and external relationships with scientific stakeholders and successfully advance collaborations</li> <li>Prior experience leading a group of contracts professionals is preferred</li> <li>Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week</li> </ul> <p>The estimated base salary range for this role is $295,000 - $310,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.</p>
