About the role
<p>As Marqeta's <strong>Senior Director, Investor Relations</strong>, you will lead and evolve the company's IR program during a pivotal period of growth and strategic transformation. Reporting directly to the SVP, Head of IR, you will serve as the primary architect of Marqeta's investment narrative and a trusted partner to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and the global investment community.</p>
<p>You are a finance athlete — equally comfortable modeling the income statement, building earnings messaging, engaging with analysts and shareholders, and advising the C-suite on how the market is pricing Marqeta’s story. You bring intellectual horsepower, executive presence, and a deep command of what moves investor sentiment in the high-growth fintech and payments space. You translate Marqeta’s complex, multi-faceted platform business into a compelling and credible financial narrative — and you make every touchpoint with the Street count.</p>

<h2><strong>The Impact You’ll Have</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li><strong>Earnings & Disclosure: </strong>Lead preparation of all quarterly earnings materials — press releases, earnings supplements, CFO/CEO scripts, and Q&A — with the rigor of an operator and the polish of a communicator.<strong> </strong></li>
<li><strong>Investor Engagement: </strong>Serve as the company’s primary spokesperson with institutional investors and sell-side analysts. Own the investor conference strategy and calendar and investor day planning.</li>
<li><strong>Equity Story & Messaging: </strong>Partner with the CFO and CEO to develop and continuously refine Marqeta’s long-term investment thesis, messaging frameworks, and forward-looking financial narratives.</li>
<li><strong>Shareholder Relations: </strong>Build and maintain deep, relationship-driven coverage across long-only funds, hedge funds, and index/passive holders. Lead 13F analysis and proactive outreach aligned to Marqeta’s strategic milestones.</li>
<li><strong>Board & Executive Reporting: </strong>Provide board-level reporting on shareholder composition, activist monitoring, peer benchmarking, and market sentiment. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on how the market is interpreting Marqeta’s results and strategy.</li>
<li><strong>Competitive Intelligence: </strong>Monitor the payments and fintech landscape, synthesizing sell-side research and peer disclosures into actionable intelligence for senior leadership.</li>
<li><strong>Cross-Functional Partnership: </strong>Partner closely with FP&A, Legal, Accounting, and Corporate Communications to ensure consistency and accuracy across all investor-facing materials and public disclosures.</li>
<li><strong>IR Function Development: </strong>Evaluate and implement processes, tools, and systems to professionalize and scale the IR function as the company grows, leveraging AI to enhance efficiency.</li>
</ul>
<h2><strong>Who You Are</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li>Finance, economics, accounting, or related degree, with MBA or CFA noted as a plus.</li>
<li>15+ years of progressive experience in investor relations, equity research, investment banking, FP&A, or institutional investing — with a meaningful IR track record at a publicly traded company.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience as a finance athlete: someone who moves fluidly between financial modeling, narrative development, and executive-level communication.</li>
<li>Familiarity with payments, fintech, or transaction-based business models</li>
<li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex financial and technical concepts into clear, investor-grade language.</li>
<li>Strong command of equity valuation methodologies, capital markets dynamics, and institutional investor behavior.</li>
<li>Track record of building productive relationships with buy-side investors and sell-side analysts at a publicly traded company.</li>
<li>High EQ, executive presence, and the gravitas to engage credibly with the Board, senior leadership, and the investment community.</li>
<li>Proven ability to operate with discretion, independence, and sound judgment in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment.</li>
<li>Bay Area based or willing to relocate; this role requires in-person engagement and regular travel.</li>
</ul>
<h2><strong>Nice-To-Haves</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li>Experience at a publicly traded payments network, card issuer, or embedded finance company.</li>
<li>Existing relationships with institutional investors and analysts covering fintech/payments equities.</li>
<li>Experience managing an IR team</li>
<li>Exposure to agentic commerce, stablecoins, or next-generation money movement trends.</li>
<li>MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced credential.</li>

To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>National</strong>: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.</li>
<li><strong>Premium</strong>: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA</li>
<li><strong>Premium Plus</strong>: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.</li>

<p>When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire <strong>base salary</strong> range for this position is:</p>
<ul>
<li>National: $217,800 - $272,200</li>
<li>Premium: $235,700 - $294,600</li>
<li>Premium Plus: $256,200 - $320,200</li>
</ul>
