About the role
Primary Responsibilities
Campaign Management & Strategic Leadership
- Work with the Executive Director to implement overall campaign strategy, integrate policy, communications, political, and organizing insights, and maintain alignment across partners.
- Track and analyze political, regulatory, and utility developments; identify leverage points, risks, and opportunities.
- Support rapid-response operations, coordinating messaging, research, and partner engagement during fast-moving developments.
- Provide high-quality strategic advice, briefing materials, and decision support to the Executive Director.
- Support the coordination of communications, regulatory, policy, and organizing workstreams to ensure narrative discipline, timely engagement across venues, and alignment between all campaign tactics.
- Manage timelines, workplans, workflows, and deliverables across multiple workstreams; ensure consistent forward momentum.
- Review or develop memos, talking points, comments, slide decks, and other written products to maintain accuracy, clarity, and message discipline.
- Implement day-to-day campaign execution and internal operations, helping translate strategic priorities into concrete plans, timelines, and follow-through across staff, consultants, and partners.
- Maintain internal coordination systems, including calendars, meeting cadences, situational-awareness documents, and communications protocols.
- Support budget tracking, contracts, and other administrative processes in partnership with the Multiplier team.
- Serve as a contact and support coordination and various work streams with its fiscal sponsor, including finance and grants management, contracts, payroll, HR, and legal operations in partnership with the Executive Director and Multiplier team.
- Support the coordination of consultants and contractors as delegated by the Executive Director and ensure high-quality work and alignment with campaign priorities.
Coalition & Stakeholder Coordination
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with environmental, EJ, consumer, labor, research, and advocacy partners.
- Plan and facilitate coalition meetings and working groups; help partners navigate conflict and maintain shared purpose.
- Support internal learning efforts, onboarding, and culture-building to strengthen the coalition’s strategic capacity.
- Represent the campaign with policymakers, partners, consultants, and occasionally the press as delegated by the Executive Director.
Fundraising & Funder Support
- Prepare clear and timely updates, memos, and synthesis materials for funder meetings.
- Assist and support the Executive Director with grant proposals, reporting, budget coordination, and funder communications.
The Ideal Candidate
- Significant experience in advocacy, organizing, campaigning, or movement-building.
- Strong political judgment and familiarity with California’s political and regulatory landscape.
- Experience integrating policy, communications, organizing, and political strategy into cohesive plans.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities and incomplete information.
- Decisive bias toward action, routinely spotting gaps or opportunities and stepping in to drive progress without prompting.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-organization efforts with precision and clarity.
- Ability to set priorities, solve problems independently, and keep multiple projects on track.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to translate complex material into clear insights.
- Strong systems thinker who can design and maintain internal workflows.
- Ability to manage upward effectively by helping the Executive Director clarify priorities, stay focused on high-value tasks, and maintain strategic alignment across the campaign.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to navigate conflict constructively.
- Experience facilitating meetings and building alignment and trust across diverse groups.
- Ego-light orientation and a collaborative, movement-building mindset.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills to speak to diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to equity, justice, and centering ratepayer impacts in energy policy.
- Discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Ownership mentality, resilience, and a steady presence under pressure.
