About the role


Primrose Retirement Communities is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Maintenance to lead and elevate maintenance operations across our communities companywide.


This role provides oversight, direction, and support to Regional Directors of Maintenance and community teams—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality environments for our residents. You’ll play a critical role in standardizing maintenance operations, driving long-term asset performance, and supporting continued growth across Primrose.

This position is based in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead maintenance teams: Provide direction and support to Regional Directors, build accountability, and develop talent
  • Standardize maintenance operations: Implement company-wide maintenance programs, policies, and preventive practices
  • Drive performance: Oversee repairs, inspections, and operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and follow-through
  • Support projects & growth: Partner on capital planning, renovations, and new community openings
  • Manage vendors & costs: Build strong vendor partnerships and ensure cost-effective service delivery
  • Promote safety & compliance: Ensure adherence to regulations and foster a culture of safety across communities

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of multi-site maintenance leadership experience
  • 3+ years leading leaders or regional teams (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems
  • Experience with capital planning and large-scale projects (preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead through others and drive results at scale
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel regularly to support communities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Education:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade-related education preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Active role requiring walking, standing, bending, and lifting
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50–75 pounds
  • Work in a variety of community and building environments
