About the role

Position Summary

The Director of Strength & Conditioning is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs to enhance athletic performance, prevent injuries, and optimize physical development of student-athletes across multiple sports programs.

Essential Job Duties

  • Design and implement strength training programs for 9 different sports teams based on scientific principles and best practices.
  • Supervise and manage a team of 5 Graduate Assistants, providing mentorship and professional development.
  • Schedule and coordinate training sessions across multiple sports programs.
  • Communicate effectively with sport coaches regarding athlete progress and program modifications.
  • Monitor and assess athlete performance and development.
  • Ensure proper form and technique during training sessions to minimize injury risk.
  • Maintain a safe and productive training environment.
  • Stay current with industry trends and research in strength and conditioning.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with 2-4 years of experience
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 2 years of managerial experience preferred
  • Experience working with collegiate athletes

Licenses/Certifications

  • CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of exercise science principles including biomechanics, kinesiology, physiology, and nutrition
  • Advanced understanding of strength training techniques, weightlifting, and functional exercises
  • Strong coaching and communication skills with the ability to effectively demonstrate proper exercise techniques
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire, motivate, and develop athletes in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and scheduling skills to manage multiple sports programs simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with coaches, staff, and athletes
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example
  • Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner

Occasionally required to move between standing and floor positions

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work environment is characterized by high noise levels due to music during training sessions. The position involves regular exposure to vibration and occasional exposure to wet, humid conditions and extreme heat. The role requires working in both indoor and outdoor settings with varying environmental conditions.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides direct supervision to individual contributors and offers continuous performance feedback. The role may also involve active participation in departmental activities to meet schedules and resolve issues as needed.
