Job Description:
As a Disability Support Worker at NDCS, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, person-centered care to clients across all age groups. This includes offering emotional support, assisting with daily living activities, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for each client. You will play a key role in helping clients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life, whether they are dealing with a disability, mental health issues, or aging-related challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and counseling to clients with mental health issues, ensuring their mental and emotional well-being.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, household tasks, and medication management.
  • Monitor and document clients’ progress, ensuring any significant changes in their condition are reported to the relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive, individualized care for each client.
  • Advocate for clients’ rights, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and services they need to thrive.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards in all aspects of care delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Mental Health, Aged Care, Community Services, or Disability Work (or higher).
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Manual Handling Certificate.
  • Working With Children Check.
  • NDIS Worker Check.
  • Completion of NDIS modules (Orientation, New Worker Induction, Supporting Effective Communications, Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals).
  • Valid driver’s license with vehicle registration and insurance.
  • Infection Control Certificate.
  • Medication Certificate.
  • Diabetes Certificate.

Competencies and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 months of experience in a similar role, preferably supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize caseloads effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
  • Previous experience in disability support is desirable.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to meet clients’ needs.
  • Competence in using smartphones and relevant apps for communication and documentation.
  • Availability for mandatory training and flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
