Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable EHS Coordinator. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing fleet safety programs with a primary focus on vehicle telematics, driver performance monitoring, and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance. This position partners with operations, fleet management, and leadership teams to reduce vehicle-related risk, improve driver behaviors, ensure regulatory compliance, and support a strong safety culture across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing telematics platforms, analyzing driver performance data, conducting fleet safety investigations, and ensuring compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities
Administer and manage the TENNA vehicle telematics system.
Monitor driver behavior metrics including speeding, harsh braking, distracted driving, seat belt usage, idle time etc.
Analyze telematics data and develop actionable recommendations to improve driver performance and reduce risk exposure.
Create and maintain fleet safety scorecards, dashboards, KPIs, and trend reports for management review.
Conduct regular reviews of vehicle event recordings and coaching opportunities.
Lead driver coaching programs and corrective action processes based on telematics findings.
Partner with fleet and operations leadership to establish safe driving expectations and accountability measures.
Ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and DOT requirements.
Manage driver qualification files, medical certifications, motor vehicle records (MVRs), and training documentation.
Oversee Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) program administration.
Conduct DOT compliance audits and inspections and support regulatory inquiries.
Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to company policies and procedures.
Maintain records required by DOT and FMCSA regulations.
Investigate vehicle accidents, near misses, and fleet-related incidents.
Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective and preventive actions.
Track incident trends and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
Coordinate with insurance carriers, claims administrators, and legal teams as needed.
Support accident review committees and driver accountability programs.
Develop and deliver fleet safety training programs.
Conduct field observations, ride-alongs, and safety audits.
Assist with company-wide EHS initiatives and compliance programs.
Support OSHA compliance efforts and workplace safety initiatives.
Develop safety communications, alerts, and educational materials.
Participate in safety committees and leadership meetings.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of EHS, fleet safety, transportation safety, or DOT compliance experience.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience managing vehicle telematics systems and driver monitoring programs.
Demonstrated experience administering FMCSA and DOT compliance programs.
Experience conducting vehicle accident investigations and root cause analysis.
Experience developing driver coaching and corrective action programs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of:
FMCSA regulations
DOT compliance requirements
Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
Driver Qualification Files (DQFs)
Hours of Service (HOS) regulations
CSA scores and fleet safety metrics
Proficiency with telematics platforms and fleet management software.
Advanced analytical and data interpretation skills.
Strong report writing and presentation capabilities.
Ability to influence behavioral change through coaching and leadership.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Power BI preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Certified Transportation Professional (CTP)
OSHA 30-Hour Certification
Defensive Driving Instructor Certification
Experience in utility, infrastructure, construction, transportation, or field service industries.
Experience with TENNA, or similar telematics platforms.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Reduction in preventable vehicle accidents.
Improvement in fleet safety scores and telematics metrics.
DOT audit readiness and compliance performance.
Driver coaching completion rates.
Reduction in speeding and distracted driving events.
Improvement in seat belt compliance rates.
Timely completion of incident investigations and corrective actions.
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel to field locations and operational facilities up to 30-40%.
Ability to conduct field inspections and ride-alongs with drivers.
Ability to work in office and outdoor environments.
Recommended Experience Level
Entry Level (2–5+ years of experience)
