Staff Elder

Position Summary: The Staff Elder fulfills the duties and responsibilities of an Elder at Athey Creek Church while also providing regular pastoral team support to staff, volunteers congregants and guests. This role serves as an accessible first point of pastoral contact and helps connect people with the appropriate pastoral staff, resources, or follow-up support as needed.

Experience and Knowledge Required:

• Agree to Athey Creek’s doctrinal distinctives and vision as found in our What We Believe/Vision Statement
• Fulfill the character qualifications of an elder as taught in scripture
• Must demonstrate discipleship and caring for the congregation
• Possess confident knowledge and application of scripture
• Demonstrated spiritual maturity, sound judgment, and relational wisdom
• Ability to communicate effectively and graciously
• Ability to remain calm, attentive, and wise in emotionally sensitive situations
• Ability to listen well, pray with others, and provide pastoral presence in both routine and difficult circumstances
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment

  

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in weekly staff meetings, services and special events as needed
• Ability to work as a member of a team with the Pastoral Care Director and staff
• Possess an aptitude to communicate effectively and graciously
• Possess a healthy working knowledge of God’s word, wisdom in applying it, and an aptitude to teach
• Support pastoral ministry with ridiculous responsiveness, including, but not limited to the pastoral team office, biblical counsel, discipleship, baptisms, hospital and home visits, and prayer
• Maintain notes on all pastoral meetings
• Exercise discernment and discretion with confidential information
• Bring benevolence requests to the Pastoral Team and participate in the decision-making process
• All other duties as assigned
