About the role
Position Summary
The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and supervision of electrical projects in the oil and gas industry. This position provides leadership to field personnel, ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulations. The Electrical Superintendent serves as the primary field leader and is responsible for workforce management, quality control, productivity, customer relations, and project execution.
This role requires extensive experience in industrial electrical construction, automation systems, oil and gas facilities, and electrical safety programs, including OSHA and NFPA 70E compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Directly supervise Foremen, Lead Technicians, Electricians, Apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate daily field operations.
- Assign personnel based on project needs, qualifications, and workload.
- Conduct daily jobsite meetings and communicate project expectations.
- Mentor and develop field employees through coaching and performance feedback.
- Promote a positive safety culture and operational excellence throughout all projects.
- Maintain accountability for workforce productivity, attendance, and performance.
Project Management & Execution
- Oversee all phases of electrical and automation construction projects.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, tools, and materials to meet project schedules.
- Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and work packages.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with Project Managers.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or issues.
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and scope requirements.
- Coordinate project startup, commissioning, and turnover activities.
- Provide field support for troubleshooting electrical and automation systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety policies, and customer requirements.
- Lead and participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), hazard assessments, and safety meetings.
- Verify employees are properly trained and qualified for assigned work.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to electrical safe work practices.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
- Support company HSE initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Quality Control
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Verify electrical systems are installed according to applicable codes and standards.
- Review inspection reports, punch lists, and quality documentation.
- Coordinate testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure project documentation is complete and accurate.
- Promote workmanship that minimizes rework and warranty issues.
Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary field contact for customers and project stakeholders.
- Maintain professional relationships with customer representatives.
- Attend project meetings and provide project status updates.
- Resolve field-related concerns and customer requests.
- Identify opportunities for additional work and communicate them to management.
Materials & Equipment Management
- Coordinate procurement and delivery of project materials.
- Monitor material usage and inventory levels.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of company equipment and vehicles.
- Verify tools and equipment are available and operational.
- Control project costs associated with materials, rentals, and labor.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete daily reports, manpower reports, and project updates.
- Review employee timesheets and labor allocations.
- Track project progress and production metrics.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
- Assist with project estimating and planning when required.
- Participate in operational and management meetings.
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in oil and gas facilities, automation systems, electrical construction, and maintenance.
- Experience managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale industrial construction projects.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training required.
- PEC Safeland, H2S Clear, and customer-specific training as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical Knowledge
- Industrial electrical systems.
- Motor control centers (MCCs).
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Electrical distribution systems up to 600V and medium voltage preferred.
- Oil and gas production facilities.
- Electrical construction methods and best practices.
- National Electrical Code (NEC).
- OSHA regulations.
- NFPA 70E requirements.

- Ability to work around heavy equipment and energized electrical systems.
- Ability to travel to customer locations and project sites.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and call-outs as business needs require.
Work Environment
This position primarily operates in industrial oil and gas facilities, construction sites, compressor stations, production facilities, tank batteries, saltwater disposal facilities, and related field environments. Exposure to moving machinery, elevated work areas, electrical hazards, extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and other industrial conditions is expected.
