About the role
Position Summary
The Apprentice Electrician supports licensed electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial electrical systems within the oil and gas servicing industry. This position is designed to provide hands-on training and progressive skill development in industrial environments, including well sites, production facilities, compressor stations, and related oilfield infrastructure.
The Apprentice Electrician is expected to work safely, follow all company and client safety policies, and comply with applicable electrical codes and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation of conduit systems (EMT, RMC, PVC, and flexible conduit) in industrial settings.
- Pull, terminate, and label conductors and cables under supervision.
- Assist with installation and wiring of motors, motor controls, VFDs, panels, disconnects, transformers, and instrumentation.
- Support troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
- Assist in testing electrical systems using appropriate tools and meters.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with company standards.
- Identify and report safety hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other energy isolation requirements.
- Travel to job sites as required, including remote oilfield locations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Industrial oil and gas facilities, including outdoor and remote job sites.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, loud environments, and heavy equipment.
- Work may include elevated surfaces, confined spaces, and hazardous locations.
- Extended work hours may be required.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in or willingness to enroll in a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and safe work practices.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and any client-specific requirements.
Preferred:
- Prior industrial or oilfield experience.
- Basic knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including FR clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
