You’ll collaborate closely with Product and Business partners to scale the backend systems behind SumUp’s global payments engine - securely processing millions of transactions daily and ensuring our merchants get paid quickly and reliably across all channels. Your work will directly impact the success and growth of millions of small businesses around the world.</p> <p>If you're excited about high-scale systems, fintech innovation, and shaping the future of digital payments, we’d love to meet you.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>What you’ll do:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Shape technical direction: contribute to platform-wide decisions as part of the Payments leadership team and influence long-term technical strategy.</li> <li>Take ownership of technical delivery: define short- and long-term goals with Product, drive technical design and architecture discussions, and ensure timely, high-quality execution.</li> <li>Grow and support your team: provide coaching, feedback, and structured performance development while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.</li> <li>Promote cross-functional alignment: build strong collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams in a dynamic environment.</li> <li>Manage priorities and context-switching: coordinate shifting priorities across multiple teams or domains, balancing business needs with engineering focus.</li> <li>Drive engagement and knowledge sharing: lead initiatives like hackathons, cross-team projects and internal community events.</li> <li>Contribute hands-on: review designs and code when needed, and help solve complex backend challenges.<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>What we’re looking for:</strong></p> <ul> <li>You have deep backend engineering experience and hands-on work with distributed systems, APIs, and databases.
