Equipment Operator

Overview: 

As part of the Department of Public Works, the City of Humboldt is currently seeking to fill one (1) permanent, full-time Equipment Operator position. 

The ideal candidate is proficient in operating heavy equipment, including skid steers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and graders. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates mechanical aptitude and a strong willingness to learn. This individual will have strong communication skills and a willingness to learn about roadway construction/repair, stormwater operations, and water/wastewater excavation. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, the ability to follow direction and delegate tasks, and the capacity to remain calm under pressure. Duties include working in confined spaces, in outdoor and nighttime conditions, and occasionally working independently.

 

This role requires participation in an on-call rotation with timely on-site response when needed. As a result, preference will be given to local candidates or those open to relocating to Humboldt.

Qualifications:

• Completion of Grade 12 or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
• Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
• Class 3A Driver’s License is an asset
• First Aid & CPR, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, Traffic Control/Flagging, and Rigging training are assets, but the City is willing to train
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Compensation:

• This is an in-scope position under CUPE 2359 with a starting range of pay from $29.27 - $31.66 per hour dependent on qualifications.
• Employees are eligible for the employer matched defined pension plan, annual paid vacation days, and a comprehensive health and wellness plan.
• General work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a 1-hour lunch.
• Once all requirements are met, on-call participation is expected and is a shared responsibility throughout the department with 4 to 6 weeks on-call per year.
