Job Role: Estimator / Draftsman (Mechanical Engineering background)

Compensation range: $1,800-2,200 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

It is known for quality workmanship, energy-efficient systems, and strong customer service, offering support from design and installation through to maintenance and repairs. With an experienced technical team and a practical, solutions-focused approach, the company has built a reputation for reliable indoor comfort and long-term client support.

Role Overview: We are seeking an Estimator / Draftsman with a Mechanical Engineering background to support a fast-paced mechanical services team. This role is focused on improving the speed and accuracy of tender preparation while producing high-quality technical drawings and documentation. You will play a key role in ensuring estimates and design outputs are delivered efficiently, allowing engineering and project teams to focus on higher-value technical and delivery work.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, material take-offs, and supporting documentation for mechanical services projects
  • Produce and update technical drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit or similar tools)
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
  • Assist in preparing tender submissions within tight turnaround times
  • Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers to gather technical and pricing information
  • Support value engineering and cost optimisation during the estimation process
  • Maintain accurate records of revisions, drawings, and estimation outputs
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating and drafting workflows for greater efficiency
  • Manage project documentation using Procore, ensuring documents are uploaded, organised, and maintained in accordance with project requirements.
  • Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, commissioning forms, and quality assurance documentation.
  • Maintain drawing registers, document registers, and project records.
  • Maintain and update passive fire penetration schedules and registers using ControlDoc or project-specific compliance platforms.
  • Record and track passive fire penetrations, inspections, and certification documentation to support compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with site teams and subcontractors to ensure passive fire records are accurate, complete, and ready for certification.
  • Assist with the preparation of compliance documentation, defect registers, and project close-out records.
  • Assist with the preparation of O&M manuals, as-built documentation, warranties, certificates, and project handover packages.
  • Ensure all project documentation is current, accurate, and issued in a timely manner to support project delivery and handover.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical services estimating and/or drafting
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems in building services environments
  • Experience using Procore for project documentation control
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication and coordination skills within technical teams
  • Ability to quickly interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks efficiently
