About the role
Job Summary
The Export Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all export-related operations, ensuring the timely and compliant shipment of goods from origin to destination. This role involves coordinating with clients, shipping lines, customs authorities, and internal departments to streamline documentation, clearance, and logistics processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and execute export operations from booking to final delivery.
- Coordinate with shippers, freight forwarders, customs authorities, shipping lines, and government agencies to ensure smooth cargo movement.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of export documentation, including certificates of origin, export declarations, T1 and movement sheets, bills of lading and certificates of origin or other related documents.
- Monitor regulatory compliance with local and international export laws, trade regulations, and customs requirements.
- Handle client communications, providing updates, and resolving shipment-related issues.
- Oversee customs clearance processes and manage any queries or inspections by customs or port authorities.
- Control export costs, including freight, documentation, warehousing, and demurrage.
- Lead and mentor a team of export officers and documentation clerks.
- Analyze shipping trends and operational performance, recommending improvements to maximize efficiency.
- Maintain proper records and ensure readiness for internal or external audits.
Qualifications and Skills
- College or Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Minimum [5+] years of export operations experience, with at least [2+] years in a supervisory or managerial role within a clearing and forwarding company.
- Deep knowledge of export documentation, INCOTERMS, customs clearance procedures, and international shipping protocols.
- Strong understanding of export laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proficient in logistics software and export platforms.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
