About the role
PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for performing skilled work involving rough and finished carpentry and is responsible for carpentry and millwright duties for all City owned facilities.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates hand and power tools associated with the carpentry trade;
- Performs interior and exterior carpentry work involved in the construction, remodeling, repair and general maintenance of buildings and facilities;
- Requisitions materials and supplies;
- Make sketches, read blueprints and diagrams;
- Cleans, sharpens and performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment;
- Builds, erects and/or works on scaffolding, ladders, lifts, and other such equipment;
- Skillfully operates all machinery, equipment, and vehicles required in all City Facility operations as assigned;
- Ensure that machinery, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained as per departmental standards;
- Assist in the Preventative Maintenance Program for all City owned facilities and buildings as required;
- Ensure that all related equipment and tools are maintained according to approved standards;
- Ensure that all timelines are worked within or adjusted within the departmental expectations;
- Ensure proper communication with other City departments is maintained as it relates to their equipment, facilities and amenities;
- Ensures that all work performed within area of responsibility is conducted safely and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and approved policies and procedures as adopted by the City of Brooks; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in all phases of residential and commercial construction;
- Journeyman Carpenter Trade Certification preferred;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract;
- Standard First Aid;
- Willingness to upgrade qualifications to remain current; and
- Subject to a criminal records check.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Willingness and ability to work outside in all seasons and in all weather conditions as required; and
- Ability to perform physically strenuous work.
