About the role

Objectives of Job

The Finance Coordinating Assistant (FCA) provides both operational and programmatic support to the Finance Department. The Inter-Cooperative Council of Ann Arbor (ICC) is a member-owned nonprofit housing cooperative, which causes the finances of the ICC to be dynamic and member driven. Our organization puts significant emphasis on keeping the cost of living competitively affordable.

FCA responsibilities range from corporate accounting, member account services, internal auditing/compliance, and member education (generating graphics, newsletters, etc.) to get members engaged in ICC finances. We are looking for someone who is already familiar with the ICC’s finances, budgeting, and unique accounting challenges. This position requires a strong attention to detail, and an openness to learn complex accounting systems. Additionally, this position is considered entry-level, with great potential for building the foundational knowledge required for a career in accounting.

FCA is a part-time temporary student employee position at the ICC requiring 12-15 hours per week. Members of the ICC who are work-study eligible are preferred. The FCA will report to the Finance Department Liaison.

Essential Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Finance Team on adhering to internal controls processes such as monthly reconciliations of bank and credit card statements.
    • House credit card reconciliation
    • House bills approval
    • Central bank account reconciliations
  • Support the Finance Team with tasks such as house book closings, share returns, reviewing invoices/account statements, and reviewing accounting journals.
  • Work on long term projects assigned by the Finance Department Liaison.
    • Create financial literacy resources for members (ICC specific and general)
    • Assist on Finance Committee projects
    • Generate finance-related reports and content for the ICC website

Desired Qualifications

  • Scholastic focus on Finance / Accounting or 1 year experience as ICC House Treasurer or Finance Committee member
  • Google Suite and Excel experience
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and complete reports
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive, confidential information
  • Regular availability between 9am-6pm for at least 5 hours per week for in-office work
    • Most work can be completed remotely and asynchronously, but some training and projects will require on-site work at the ICC office.
