About the role
Position Overview
The Freight Officer is responsible for the proper handling of customs and port documentation, handling of delivery orders, release of cargo release notes to customers against payments of dues and proper endorsed documents. Follow up of documentation requirements with local customers as well as overseas principals.
Essential Job Roles:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collecting delivery orders from Shipping lines and informing consignee for collection of the same via e-mails, fax & phone calls.
- Billing & Closing of files for Cash/Credit customers after release of documents for Air & Sea shipments.
- Follow-up of payments.
- Collecting delivery orders from shipping lines and forwarding for clearance purposes.
- Sending the documents to respective ministries for obtaining the permissions required in order to custom clear the shipments.
- Coordinating with transporters & customer’ for delivery of shipments after clearance.
- Handling customer’s & agents queries via-e-mails and phones.
- Routing of air freight & sea freight shipments.
- Preparation of quotations for customer’s / agents.
- Preparing weekly/monthly MIS reports for the management for internal and external purposes.
- Customs clearance of AIR & SEA shipments.
- Complete handling of LCL Consolidation container’s.
- Preparing of manifest and delivery orders.
- Billing of transporters & clearing agents after delivery/clearance of shipments.
- Billing & Invoicing of files for the customer/agents after delivery.
- Forwarding new sales enquiries to the sales coordinator/ sales executives .
- Coordinating with freight forwarding agents both overseas and domestic.
- Handling various other works given by the management.
- Meeting set deadlines as per the management and the customers.
- Sending reports to overseas agent’s.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
- Minimum qualification of ‘Secondary School certificate’ with proven work experience in the same position.
- 2 years of shipping knowledge & documentation.
- Good knowledge of Custom/Port Rules and regulations.
- Experience in Freight Forwarding / NVOCC / Air Freight shipments.
- Good telephone manners / Customer handling.
- Fair knowledge of Arabic speaking to deal with local customers.
Experience and good knowledge of the local shipping documentation. - Requirement, Local customs regulations and clearance procedures.
- Necessary computer operating skills of MS office skills
