Senior HDD Locator – Telecom Division

About the Company

GCS Group is an established telecom construction contractor operating across Alberta. We run multiple HDD crews on underground fibre and utility projects, and we take pride in the quality and safety of every bore we complete. We're looking for a Senior HDD Locator who can lead from the front and set the standard on our most demanding jobs.

Position Summary

As a Senior Locator, you're the go-to on site. You bring deep experience with SubSite systems, a thorough understanding of HDD bore planning, and the confidence to make real-time decisions under pressure. You'll work closely with project management and drill crews to ensure every locate is accurate, every utility is identified, and every bore is completed safely.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Take ownership of all locate functions on complex HDD telecom installations
• Operate and troubleshoot SubSite locating equipment across varying soil and depth conditions
• Collaborate with drill operators on Ditch Witch equipment to refine bore paths in real time
• Conduct pre-bore utility verification and ground disturbance planning
• Review and approve field documentation, bore logs, and as-builts
• Provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate locators on crew
• Serve as primary safety representative during locate operations

Qualifications

• All required certifications must be valid and current — mandatory before hire
• Extensive hands-on experience with SubSite locating systems
• Proven track record working with Ditch Witch HDD drills on telecom or utility projects
• Ability to lead a crew and coordinate with multiple stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving ability in time-sensitive field conditions

 REQUIRED CERTIFICATES

• Ground Disturbance Level 2 training certification;
• CSTS 2020 training certification;
• Valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract
• Whmis 2015
