About the role
At ETEL, we’re committed to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace — where our people are protected, supported, and able to do their best work.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in strengthening how health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental practices are embedded across our operations. You’ll work closely with leaders and frontline teams to build capability, improve systems, and support a proactive safety culture where care, learning, and ownership matter more than just compliance.
We’re looking for someone who brings practical know-how, strong coaching skills, and a genuine commitment to keeping people safe and well.
About the role
As our Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor, you’ll support the delivery of effective systems and practices that protect people, promote wellbeing, and prevent environmental harm across our manufacturing environment.
Working closely with the Group HSE Manager, site leaders and teams, you’ll provide hands-on support, coaching and assurance — leading key activities such as inspections, audits, and improvement initiatives.
This is a highly visible role where you’ll partner with the business to lift standards, strengthen risk management, support environmental stewardship, and embed continuous improvement in HSE performance.
What you’ll be doing
- Partnering with leaders to translate HSE priorities into practical plans and actions
- Conducting inspections, audits and verification activities, and ensuring follow-up to closure
- Supporting implementation and improvement of HSE systems, environmental practices, and compliance requirements
- Leading hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of effective controls
- Supporting incident reporting, investigation and embedding learning outcomes
- Delivering inductions, training, and coaching to build HSE capability across the business
- Supporting practical environmental management
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to lift HSE performance and culture
What you’ll bring
- 3–5 years' experience in a Health & Safety, Environmental or HSE Advisor/Coordinator role
- Strong working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation (including HSWA)
- Experience in hazard identification, risk management, and site inspections
- Experience supporting incident investigations and delivering training/inductions
- Exposure to ISO-aligned HSE management systems and audit
Desirable:
- Qualification in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field
- Experience in manufacturing, energy, or construction environments
- Knowledge of hazardous substances and environmental compliance
- Experience with contractor management and emergency response
What sets you apart
- You translate HSE requirements into practical, workable solutions
- You’re confident coaching and influencing across all levels of the business
- You have strong attention to detail and follow through on actions
- You use data and insights to identify trends and drive improvement
- You remain calm and methodical, even in high-pressure situations
- You’re passionate about building a proactive, learning-focused safety culture
