Senior Horizon Engineer

<p>As a global market maker, Optiver trades hundreds of thousands of financial instruments on exchanges around the world. By continuously providing quotes – both bids to buy and offers to sell – we play a vital role in the healthy functioning of markets. &nbsp;</p> <p>We are looking for a Senior Horizon Engineer to improve and evolve our global, large-scale Omnissa Horizon environment. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role with strong emphasis on platform automation, repeatability, and data-driven decision making. You will be responsible not only for keeping the platform stable, but for improving how it is operated over time through automation, standardization, and evidence-based optimization.</p> <p>This is a specialist Horizon engineering role, not a generic Modern Workplace position.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>What you'll do</strong></p> <ul> <li>Operate and support production VMware Horizon (Omnissa) environments</li> <li>Own and execute Horizon platform upgrades (agents, pods, components) with minimal user impact</li> <li>Troubleshoot and remediate performance, stability, and user-experience issues using metrics and evidence, not guesswork</li> <li>Diagnose and resolve authentication and login-related issues (AD, GPOs, certificates, SSO, MFA integrations)</li> <li>Design and implement repeatable processes using PowerShell-first automation, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code principles where applicable</li> <li>Use monitoring and operational data to drive capacity planning, tuning, and remediation decisions</li> <li>Work closely with infrastructure, networking, and security teams on cross-domain issues and improvements</li> <li>Analyse and address resource contention across compute, memory, storage, network, and vGPU where applicable</li> <li>Participate in remediation initiatives related to performance degradation, login latency, session instability, and user-impacting incidents</li> <li>Continuously reduce manual operational effort through scripting, standardisation, and platform improvements</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Who you are</strong></p> <ul> <li>A senior, hands-on Horizon engineer with 7+ years of real production experience</li> <li>Comfortable taking ownership of both technical outcomes and operational quality</li> <li>Experienced in applying automation and infrastructure-as-code thinking to improve reliability and consistency (even if not everything is fully codified)</li> <li>Data-driven in how you troubleshoot, optimize and justify changes</li> <li>Execution-focused, with a strong bias toward fixing root causes rather than symptoms</li> <li>Calm and methodical under pressure, especially during incidents</li> <li>Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions using evidence and impact</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Who we are</strong></p> <p>At Optiver, our mission is to constantly improve the market by injecting liquidity, providing accurate pricing, increasing transparency and acting as a stabilizing force no matter the market conditions.
