Position Summary:
At Seattle Humane, our approach to Human Resources management is rooted in our mission, values, and commitment to a thriving and inclusive workplace. The Human Resources Associate is responsible for beginning-stage recruiting and supporting all areas of Human Resources while providing excellent service to employees, candidates, and the community. This position primarily works at the Seattle Humane campus in Bellevue, WA with occasional remote work opportunities.
KEY OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports recruiting, posts job openings, screens resumes, schedules and conducts phone interviews, and collaborates with hiring managers.
- Works with management and teams to develop deep familiarity and understanding of job duties and work culture in Seattle Humane and accurately communicates expectations to candidates.
- Develops and diversifies Seattle Humane’s hiring sources and programs, creates relationships with community partners.
- Prepares materials for new employees and supports the onboarding/offboarding processes.
- Maintains current and accurate employee information, follows established procedures, and looks for ways to increase efficiency.
- Processes benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations, including partnering with Finance for applicable payroll changes.
- Manages Pet Reimbursement program, tracking and approvals, employee communication, and submitting reimbursements to Finance.
- Member of the Seattle Humane Safety Committee and manages HR compliance and communication for this group.
- Manages compliance for office postings, signage, tracking completed training, and other programs.
- Assists with preparing reports, metrics, and pulling data for use internally.
- Researches and extracts facts, themes, trends, etc. in HR topics (employment laws, animal welfare partners, HR groups, hiring data, etc.).
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Provides supportive service to employees and/or refers them to HR team as appropriate.
- Participates in HR cross-training initiatives, leads interactions with curiosity and looks for win-win solutions for employees, the HR team, and the organization.
Secondary Functions:

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
- Two to four years of Human Resources experience required.
- One to two years of recruiting experience required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers and community in a professional, pleasant, respectful, and tactful manner.
- Highly organized work style, with attention to detail.
- Exhibits professional maturity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Desire and willingness to increase learning in the HR field and take on projects to support growth.
- Familiarity with state and federal employment laws preferred.
- Previous experience working with nonprofits preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office and animal shelter environment. When handling animals, there is a potential of animal bites, exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal dander and noise.
Equipment Use: Regular use of computer, printer, copier, scanner, badge printer and telephone.
Work Hours: Typical business hours, full-time, Monday through Friday, with very occasional evening or weekend hours to support Seattle Humane events.
