POSITION: Indigenous Cultural Coordinator

 

JOB TYPE: Regular Part-Time/ Full-Time

WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE: Shifts are typically 8 hours per day and 24 to 40 hours per week.

SALARY RANGE: $62,400 – $66,560 per year (based on a 40-hour work week; salary will be prorated based on the scheduled hours).

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22-unit supportive housing program with a 12-bed emergency shelter that provides both long-term housing and short-term emergency accommodation for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.


SCSA has a long history of supporting people experiencing housing instability. Building on our previous shelter operations at Broadway Place, our team is passionate about helping participants and guests find stability, safety, and belonging. Through our partnership with BC Housing, we provide shelter, housing support, meals, hygiene services, life skills development, case planning, and connections to community resources. Our goal is to help individuals move toward greater independence while feeling respected, supported, and at home.


Goodacre Place works closely with community partners, healthcare providers, Indigenous organizations, and social service agencies to ensure participants have access to the supports they need to thrive.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Indigenous Cultural Coordinator is responsible for fostering culturally safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for participants residing at Goodacre Place Supportive Housing. The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator develops, coordinates, and facilitates Indigenous cultural programming, promotes tenant engagement and wellness, and supports participants in strengthening cultural identity, community connections, and overall well-being.

 

Working collaboratively with participants, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous organizations, community partners, and staff, the Indigenous Cultural Coordinator helps integrate Indigenous perspectives, traditions, and cultural practices into program delivery. The position also supports staff learning and development by promoting cultural awareness, cultural humility, and culturally safe practices throughout the program, helping advance the organization's commitment to Reconciliation.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate Indigenous cultural programming, activities, workshops, and events that promote participant wellness, healing, cultural connection, and community engagement.
  • Create opportunities for participants to engage in cultural teachings, storytelling, traditional practices, arts, crafts, ceremonies, and other culturally meaningful activities.
  • Build respectful and trusting relationships with Indigenous participants and support their cultural, emotional, social, and community connection goals.
  • Support participants in accessing culturally relevant community resources, health services, housing supports, and wellness programs.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Indigenous organizations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners to strengthen participant supports and programming opportunities.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and person-centered services are provided.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Indigenous cultural awareness, reconciliation, and cultural safety training opportunities for staff, and act as a cultural resource by providing guidance on Indigenous history, traditions, cultural protocols, and respectful engagement practices.
  • Assist in advancing organizational commitments to Reconciliation, Indigenous inclusion, and culturally responsive service delivery.
  • Participate in case planning discussions, multidisciplinary team meetings, program development, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, statistics, and documentation related to program activities and service delivery.
  • Perform administrative and other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and cultural knowledge.
  • Minimum three (3) year recent related experience working with Indigenous individuals, families, or communities.
  • Experience facilitating cultural programming, community engagement activities, or wellness initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, histories, and the impacts of colonization, residential schools, and intergenerational trauma.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles, trauma-informed practice, and culturally safe approaches to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental health challenges, or substance use concerns.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and local Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset.
  • Holds or is willing to obtain First Aid & CPR, Naloxone Training, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with participants, community members, Elders, and partner organizations.
  • Strong understanding of cultural humility, cultural safety, and person-centered service delivery.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing complex barriers, including homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, and trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong facilitation, engagement, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to be sensitive and responsive to individuals' diverse social, cultural, spiritual, and economic realities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and database systems.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of confidentiality.
  • Undergo a Criminal Record Check
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
