Peer Support Worker

1  Temporary Part-time (28 hours per week - contract until March 31, 2027)

This position is responsible for providing support to adolescents and young adults 12-25 years of age who are experiencing mental health issues.  The incumbent will also provide additional supports to Adolescents/young adults to work toward the achievement of their goals as identified in the person’s recovery plan and work closely with the primary worker.

 

Reporting to the Integrated Manager of Integrated Client Services, the incumbent will be responsible for the following functions:

  • promotes a stigma free youth culture for mental illness;
  • provides individualized community-based support from a recovery perspective to clients;
  • assisting A/YA in prioritizing needs/areas of consideration and to develop short-term plans to address these priorities;
  • promotes opportunities for increased independence and champions community peer development;
  • assists with group facilitation and support as needed and directed;
  • acting as a resource person or an advocate to assist individuals in obtaining information/accessing services/supports which are deemed needed;
  • supporting reintegration into school, work and social activities.

 

Qualifications:   

  • Post-secondary diploma in a relevant discipline such as a Social Service Worker, or Addictions and Mental Health with a Professional Registration;
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a health related organization and experience working with Adolescents/young adults with mental health issues;
  • Personal lived experience in recovery from a mental health and/or addiction challenges;
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle.



Hours of Work:  35 hours/week with working one evening per week.
