Irrigation Specialist

Help us grow high‑performing kiwifruit orchards and build resilient infrastructure across Baygold’s operations. 

Baygold is looking for a motivated and reliable Irrigation Specialist to join our Infrastructure & Irrigation team. In this hands‑on role, you’ll support the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, as well as contribute to trenching, cabling, culvert work, and general orchard infrastructure projects. Your work directly supports the development of high‑quality orchards that deliver strong, consistent yields.

Irrigation Installation & Maintenance 

• Install irrigation systems according to engineering plans under the direction of the Team Lead. 

• Install in‑ground pipework and above‑ground laterals along kiwifruit lead wires. 

• Carry out maintenance and repairs on existing irrigation systems and associated groundwork. 

• Document progress and completed work for tracking, quality assurance, and reporting. 

Trenching & Cabling 

• Operate trenching machinery, skid steers, and tractors for trenching and backfilling. 

• Lay pipes, fibre cabling, and other infrastructure components as required. 

Culvert & Infrastructure Work 

• Complete basic roading repairs and maintenance for orchard roads and pads, including pothole repairs. 

• Install and maintain drainage systems to support effective water management. 

• Operate tractors to rip ground and prepare sites for orchard planting. 

• Carry out ground maintenance tasks, including stabilisation after slips, remedial work, and installing new drainage where required.
  

What you will bring:  

• Experience with manual labour, including assembling pipework and using hand tools. 

• Experience operating tractors and small diggers (1–2 tonne) is advantageous. 

• Clean driver’s licence with the ability to drive a manual vehicle. 

• Class 2 or 4 licence is an advantage. 

• Ability to read plans and follow direction accurately. 

• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying conditions. 

• Reliable, motivated, and able to work well within a team environment. 

• Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn new tasks and systems.
