About the role
Position Summary
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in accordance with applicable electrical codes, company safety policies, and project specifications. This role requires a strong working knowledge of electrical systems, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and the capability to work independently or as part of a team to complete electrical installations safely and efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components in commercial, industrial, and oilfield environments.
- Interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Install conduit, cable trays, wiring, panels, motors, and control systems.
- Terminate wiring and connect electrical equipment according to manufacturer specifications and code requirements.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable electrical codes including the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
- Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and participate in job safety meetings.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Coordinate work activities with supervisors, apprentices, and other trades on the jobsite.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentice electricians when required.
- Complete required documentation including work reports, inspections, and safety documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License (state or applicable jurisdiction).
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and specifications.
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and clamp meters.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial, automation, or oil and gas electrical systems.
- Knowledge of motor controls, instrumentation, and PLC systems.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- H2S Awareness training.
- First Aid / CPR certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, and wind.
- Ability to perform overhead work and use hand and power tools for extended periods.
Work Environment
This position may require work in industrial facilities, construction sites, and oil and gas field environments. Employees may be exposed to loud noise, heavy equipment, hazardous energy sources, and varying environmental conditions. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
- Participate in required safety training and safety meetings.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures when working on electrical systems.
- Immediately report hazards, near misses, or incidents to supervision.
- Use required PPE including arc flash protection when applicable.
