Lab Technician

Job Summary: The medical technologist is responsible for receiving, labeling, and analyzing samples and executing laboratory testing according to standard procedures while delivering excellent internal and external customer service.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• 
  Perform tests including but not limited to standardized and semi-routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests in research or clinical laboratory.
• 
  Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and calibrates equipment and instruments as required.
• 
  Prepare reagents as needed.
• 
  Evaluate the validity of acceptable specimens and test results; comparing them to previous results and other laboratory data.
• 
  In complex cases, evaluate all information and determine whether test results should be released, repeated, or referred to the lab manager. Refer abnormal or unexpected results to the appropriate individual(s).
• 
  Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations.
• 
  Document corrective actions taken for out-of-range test values.
• 
  Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work area. Comply with laboratory safety and infection control policies and procedures to prevent exposure to infectious materials.
• 
  Audit reports to ensure that scheduled tests have been completed.
• 
  Assist in gathering data to monitor quality improvement standards and in preparing reports.
• 
  Facilitate training of new hires.
• 
  Any other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

• 
  Proven experience as a lab technician or related role
• 
  Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology OR bachelor’s degree from an accredited school
• 
  Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems
• 
  Ability to work independently and under pressure in a dynamic environment
