Load Planner

Summary

The Load Planner is responsible for maximizing the efficiency and profitability of the company's transportation network by strategically planning freight movements, assigning loads to drivers and equipment, and balancing customer service expectations with operational capacity. The role ensures that freight is moved safely, on time, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities

• Secure, Plan and assign loads to drivers and equipment each day.
• Build efficient load sequences to reduce empty miles and improve utilization.
• Monitor driver availability, Hours of Service, and equipment status.
• Work closely with Dispatch and Operation Manager to adjust plans as needed.
• Respond quickly to delays, appointment changes, breakdowns, and other service issues.
• Keep load information updated in the TMS.
• Communicate load plans and changes clearly to all parties involved.
• Balance customer needs, driver needs, and company profitability when making decisions.

Skills Needed

• High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and MCLEOD transportation software.
• Strong understanding of transportation operations and freight planning principles.
• Working knowledge of driver Hours of Service regulations.
• Ability to analyze multiple variables and make sound operational decisions under pressure.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and transportation software.
